Kimmi's Nicturna Session | Super Moon 2020

The Tale of Two Diamond Rings.

“Walking.

I am listening to a deeper way.

Suddenly all my ancestors are behind me.

Be still, they say.

Watch and listen.

You are the result of the love of thousands.”

Linda Hogan

From the first email I received from Kimmi, I knew I HAD to work with her.

She wrote me an inquiry unlike any I have received before.

It was written like a beautiful story in a poetic fashion and left me literally in tears after reading how she wrote about the women in her family.

I felt honoured to photograph this beautiful soul on the rare super new moon recently. Here are some words from Kimmi herself to share with you all.

Enjoy this special Nicturna Session blog friends.

The two rings are quite symbolic, and I think truly reflects my story.

I wrote a little summary of how I feel:

I hear "it" when my mother recounts the memories of my great grandmother's remarkably mysterious and bewitching beauty. I sense "it" when my mom speaks of my grandmother's profound sense of empathy and maternal steadfastness in the face of adversity. I see "it" when I observe my own mother's extraordinary affinity with plants. Now as my life proceeds to shift, I am starting to discern this perplexing "it" within myself. The sense is difficult to describe in words. What I feel is a deep-rooted, intriguing, and mystical sensuality. What I recognize is that it passed down through our matrilineal line, something I don't quite yet understand, but know that I will with time.

It's the small things in the stories that stand out, like my great grandmother's penchant for old Chinese healing spells, or herbs they would cultivate in the garden as medicine. I remember these things sounding so absurd when I was a child but

it started to make more sense as time went on. It just fits with the soul somehow.

About the two rings:

Many natural diamonds are between 1 to 3 billion years old. There is an enduring history behind these stones, which are also regarded as amulets of motherhood.

My grandmother's diamond reminds me that I am part of the collective power of the women from my maternal bloodline. Like the diamond, we females are untamable and exquisitely formed under pressure.

My engagement diamond doesn't possess the same history as my grandmother's diamond, but it still holds immense potential. I can't wait to see the story that unfolds.
